Dr. Jencius,
I have a question for you in reference to theory. According to Freud's psychosexual stages...the phallic stage centers around the unconscious incestuous desires that the child has for the parent of the opposite sex. So is this to say that between the ages of three and six...a child actually has some unconscious sexual desire for the parent but it does not emerge to the conscious level and therefore it is non-threatening? I can not quite understand this man's rationale. During the six to twelve year old period...these impulses just go away? I do not know what your stance is in regards to this theory but do you believe that in this day it is possible for these impulses to just "rest" during this latency period? More of our children are sexually active at the age of 9 and 10 and this is supposed to be the age of "rest"? So could this theory hold true as the years go by and children are maturing by leaps and bounds at younger and younger ages?
